The distinguished career of Abder Sbahi

Abder SbahiAbderhamane Sbahi, former director of Materials Management Services at the University of Ottawa, will be retiring at the end of September 2009, after a long career at the University. A respected and dedicated professional, Sbahi is also a leader in the area, having taught an entire generation of new managers now at work.

On June 15, 2009, the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO) presented Abder Sbahi with its Distinguished Service Award, which is given to individuals who have made an outstanding long-term contribution to the CAUBO and to the management of higher education. As well, Sbahi was one of the founding members of the CAUBO National Procurement Committee and a very active member of the Association, which fosters cooperation, information exchange and interaction among its members.

During his 25 years at the University, this champion of best practices in university procurement made innovations in the field by setting up purchasing consortia. Over the years, he has achieved his vision of a decentralized, efficient, secure and beneficial procurement model.

An active member of the Corporation des approvisionneurs du Québec, he also played a critical role as liaison between the Ontario University Purchasing Management Association (OUPMA) and the Regroupement des gestionnaires d’approvisionnements des universités québécoises (RGAUQ).
